Coprosma rhamnoides

If only this small bushy shrub, coprosma rhamnoides, had a common name it might be grown more. It’s a wonderful garden plant because it adds texture and funkiness to a garden. It has red or black berries in autumn which are great for birds. Likes open or semi-shade sites. It’s found throughout Hawke’s Bay and is quite common because it isn’t very palatable to stock. The seeds for this plant were collected near Kereru.
