Muehlenbeckia complexa, pohuehue
Muehlenbeckia complexa, pohuehue is a terrific plant for restoration projects. You will find it billowing along on the back dunes at the beach, or covering fence lines all over Hawke’s Bay. It scrambles and climbs but with none of crazy vigour of its cousin M. australis. Complexa can be trimmed into a hedge, and it makes fantastic habitat for butterflies and skinks.
