Plagianthus regius, ribbonwood

A faster growing, straighter-trunked and magnificent tree could not be imagined. Plagianthus regius, ribbonwoods, are found occasionally in Hawke’s Bay on alluvial flats in Central Hawke’s Bay, and also at higher altitudes on the Maraetotara Plateau and on the Maungaharuru Range. They make beautiful groves, and when the tree is mature it has a large rounded top and can look a bit like a plum tree.
