Carex secta (Pūkio / Pūrei)

The most glorious sedge with its fine leaves and arching form. It is the only sedge to grow a trunk, so it can cope with fluctuating water levels. Plant just by stream sides and wetland edges in the wettest sites. Great bird habitat and its seeds are the best duck food. Handsome year round.
